Lessons in Self Mastery-Instant Gratification
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” Robert Louis Stevenson
When I read this quote by Robert Louis Stevenson, I think about how many times I used
to base my success on whether there was instant gratification…or better yet, instant results.
In my marketing, I would put out a piece of content to promote a product/service and tweet it, post it on FB, or do whatever necessary to get it syndicated. Then I would wait for the leads or sales to come in. If I didn’t get a response after a couple of days I would say to myself, “This is not working…let me try something else!”
Lessons in Self Mastery-Be Consistent
I would switch my marketing strategy whenever the results weren’t coming in fast enough. This was a bad move. What I learned from others who have travelled the same road and are successful in what they do is that it’s about being consistent.
There is no such thing as an overnight success. It is important to follow a proven formula, but if you are not consistent, your audience will not take you serious. Breakthroughs happen after following a proven formula on a consistent basis.
Lessons in Self Mastery-The Results of Today
The results of today may not be from what you did yesterday…it could come from something you did weeks, or even months ago. I remember one time I had earn a $200 commission on a product that I had not actively promoted in 6 months. It was like finding money left in my pockets while doing laundry!
Now, what was I doing previous to those 6 months before I told myself, “This is not working?” Looking back, I realized that I was heavily promoting the product, and I was pretty consistent…I just didn’t stick with it long enough.
What would have happened if I had just stayed with the strategy that I thought wasn’t working because I wasn’t getting instant sales? It’s quite possible that I would be getting more commissions right now from that product.
Lessons in Self Mastery-Lesson Learned
It’s foolish for a farmer to plant seeds today and expect a harvest tomorrow. Why would it be any different for me? Lesson learned. The formula worked…I just didn’t believe in it enough to stay the course. I was judging my days by my harvest and not by the seeds I planted.
My challenge to you is to be consistent with your efforts (of course, make sure what you’re doing has a proven track record of success). Learn from my mistakes and don’t repeat them. Trust me, you’ll have plenty of chances to make your own
Keep Planting!

Valentino, never were truer words spoken!
Being consistent is EVERYTHING in this business. So many people quit even before they get to 6 months, so they never even get to see the fruits of their labor!
You have great wisdom in your posts.
I look forward to reading more.
